GIU Basketball Team
The First Team — 2014–2015
The history of basketball at GIU began in the 2014–2015 academic year with the formation of the university’s first student team. The team quickly gained recognition for its organized play and strong motivation.
From its earliest seasons, GIU’s basketball squad demonstrated clear professional potential and began participating in competitive tournaments.
A-League — A Historic Achievement
GIU’s basketball team made a lasting impression on Georgia’s sports scene by competing in the A-League, where it achieved a historic record: 10 wins in 10 games.
This unbeaten streak positioned GIU’s team as a record-holder in A-League history and signaled its readiness for the next level — a path toward qualifying for the Super League.
U-20 Team Formation — 2022
In support of systemized basketball development, GIU established a second team in 2022: the U-20 team, composed of younger players being prepared for national and international stages.
This team not only increases competitive opportunities but also provides a professional training platform for students seeking careers in basketball.
Both GIU teams actively represent the university in student tournaments and continue regular training, tactical preparation, and the promotion of sportsmanship and discipline.
