On January 22, a workshop – ,,Anxiety States – How Anxiety Works and How to Help Yourself”  was held for GIU psychology students.

The aim of the workshop was to develop a better understanding of anxiety, become familiar with its mechanisms, and build practical self-regulation skills.

The workshop covered several important topics, including:

  • the socialization and normalization of anxiety;
  • the bio-psycho-social mechanisms of anxiety;
  • recognizing and naming one’s own anxiety;
  • practical short-term self-regulation skills.

 

After the workshop, participants gained a clearer understanding of:

  • what anxiety is and why it occurs;
  • the difference between normal anxiety and anxiety disorders;
  • how to recognize the physical, cognitive, and behavioral signs of their own anxiety;
  • when and under what circumstances to seek professional help.

The workshop was led by Natia Obgaidze, PhD candidate in Applied Social Psychology, Associate Professor at GIU, Associate Member of the Trainers’ Association, and Member of the Georgian Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Association.

Facilitator: Giorgi Gergauli – Head of the Bachelor’s Program in Psychology and the Master’s Program in Social Psychology at GIU, Associate Professor.
