Program Overview

The Bachelor’s Program in Psychology is an academically structured program that provides students with fundamental knowledge of psychology as a science and practical skills. The program covers the core areas of psychology—personality, cognitive, social, developmental, clinical, and neuropsychology—and integrates theoretical instruction with research components and practical experience.

One of the key strengths of the program is its research-oriented approach, which teaches students both qualitative and quantitative research methods, data analysis, and their application in practice. The learning process also focuses on developing critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills, ensuring the effective use of knowledge in a professional environment.

The program is aligned with labor market demands and enhances graduates’ competitiveness across various fields. In the final stage, internship and a bachelor’s thesis provide students with the opportunity to apply their knowledge in real settings and prepare for both employment and further studies at the next academic level.

Program Objectives

The objectives of the Georgian-taught Bachelor’s Program in Psychology are:

To provide students with broad knowledge of the fundamentals of psychology as a science and its contemporary approaches, and to develop the ability to effectively apply this knowledge in practical activities within the field of psychology;
To enable students to explore and study theories explaining personality development and formation, and to describe cause-and-effect relationships in human behavior;
To introduce modern research methods in psychology and ensure their application in practice;
To develop students’ communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and professional ethical values;
To enable students to empirically understand reality, thereby deepening theoretical knowledge and developing professional competencies, so that the knowledge gained at the bachelor’s level can be effectively applied in higher-level academic programs.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge and Understanding

Classifies the theoretical foundations of psychology as a science into contemporary psychological approaches;
Classifies the main concepts and principles of personality psychology, genetic and social factors, and identifies general diagnostic criteria of major mental disorders;
Discusses/explains the main characteristics of personality development, the psychological regularities of mental functions, factors influencing development, and developmental disorders;
Describes and explains the foundations, structure, forms, types, and regularities of behavior in the process of interaction between a human and the external environment, as well as psychological classifications and explanations of behavior;

Skills

Uses the main theories of psychology, empirical research methods of personality, and statistical methods to design small-scale studies using the SPSS program;
Prepares a research or practice-based project and provides appropriate recommendations according to predefined guidelines;
Analyzes and evaluates psychological problems at a beginner level in the process of identification, investigation, and decision-making;
Establishes written and oral communication with both professionals and non-professionals in the field, in both native and foreign languages;

Responsibility and Autonomy

Applies acquired knowledge with integrity, responsibility, and adherence to ethical principles, and respects the diversity of society;
Evaluates and independently carries out the planning and development of professional growth needs at an appropriate level of autonomy.

Upon completion of the program and obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, graduates have the opportunity to be employed in the public, private, and non-governmental sectors. The knowledge acquired, practical skills, and research experience enable them to work in the fields of education, healthcare, and social services, as well as in various organizations where psychological competence is required and a master’s degree is not mandatory. Graduates will be able to apply their knowledge both in psychology and in related fields.

Employment Areas: Public service, schools and kindergartens, children’s shelters, the penitentiary and probation system, banking and other private organizations.

Positions: Psychologist, teacher’s assistant, class tutor, specialist in personnel selection and research, customer service representative, specialist involved in resocialization processes.

Admission Requirements

Admission to the Bachelor’s Program in Psychology is carried out based on the Unified National Examinations, in accordance with the legislation of Georgia. The right to study in the Bachelor’s Program in Psychology is granted to a person who has completed general education, holds a state-recognized certificate (school diploma) or an equivalent document, and who, based on the results of the Unified National Examinations, obtains the right to study in this program and completes administrative registration at Georgian International University.

Admission without passing the unified national examinations

Studying without passing the Unified National Examinations is permitted in accordance with the legislation of Georgia:

For foreign citizens and stateless persons who have received complete general education or its equivalent in a foreign country;
For citizens of Georgia who have received complete general education or its equivalent in a foreign country and have studied the last two years of general education abroad;
For foreign citizens (except participants of joint higher education programs and exchange educational programs) who are studying/have studied and have obtained credits/qualifications in a foreign country in a higher education institution recognized in accordance with the legislation of that country;
For citizens of Georgia (except participants of joint higher education programs and exchange educational programs) who, within the period defined by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, have lived/are living, studying/have studied, and have obtained credits/qualifications in a foreign country in a higher education institution recognized in accordance with the legislation of that country;
The University conducts an interview to determine the language proficiency of applicants seeking admission without passing the Unified National Examinations and ensures that a video recording of the interview is accessible to the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia.
